American Equipment for the Domestic Supply Chain

Federal investment in domestic critical minerals processing is accelerating. The Department of Energy recently announced $500 million to strengthen domestic processing capacity, and policy attention has expanded beyond rare earths to include tungsten, antimony, tin, and other minerals where US supply chains remain vulnerable. The emphasis is shifting from getting minerals out of the ground to processing them here.

Physical beneficiation is where that processing begins. Before chemical refining takes place, valuable minerals have to be mechanically separated and concentrated from waste material. Gravity concentration accomplishes this through differences in particle density, using water flow and controlled motion. It is proven technology applicable across the range of minerals now on the federal critical list. For a deeper look at how this step affects project economics, see our recent article on the rare earth recovery challenge.

Built Here Since 1906

Deister Concentrator has manufactured mineral processing equipment in the United States since 1906, when Emil Deister patented his shaking table separation concept after immigrating from Germany. Today, that legacy continues in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with every unit made in the USA.

The table lineup covers the full range of project scale, from the #15-S lab table used for initial testwork and process validation through the #6 and #14 production tables to the #99, #999, and #9999 double, triple, and quad-deck configurations. Particle size capability runs from coarse sand through 325-mesh slime. Earlier this year, a triple-deck #999 table and distributor shipped from Fort Wayne to a new operation in California, one of many units leaving the facility as domestic mineral processing activity grows.

Ready to Get the Job Done

As domestic critical minerals projects move from planning toward production, the processing equipment decisions made early in that process have long-term consequences. American-made gravity concentration technology, with more than a century of manufacturing and field experience behind it, is available now.  Building a secure domestic supply chain requires reliable American manufacturing. Deister has been providing that from right here in the US for over a century.
