Gravity Separation

In the world of mineral processing, gravity separation has proven to be one of the most efficient and cost-effective methods.  Among the various techniques within gravity separation, shaking tables remain a tried-and-true solution for separating minerals based on their specific gravity and particle size.

Shaking tables, also known as concentrating tables, are devices that leverage the principles of gravity, vibration, and water flow to separate minerals from ore streams.  They consist of a slightly inclined deck covered with riffles where the ore mixture is introduced.

The process begins with the ore slurry fed onto the shaking table's deck.  As the table shakes in an end-to-end motion, aided by cross water flow, valuable minerals concentrate at specific points on the table.  Particles with higher density tend to settle along the grooves; lighter density particles migrate towards the table's edges.

While shaking tables are remarkably efficient, their effectiveness is influenced by many factors, several of which are:

Deck angle:  Adjusting the slope of the table alters the trajectory of particles, impacting the separation efficiency.

Amplitude and frequency:  Varying the shaking intensity and frequency influences the table's capacity and overall performance.

Water flow rate: Proper control of water flow aids in separation and helps carry away unwanted material.
